While
all of the Libyan Desert has been mapped & surveyed, and no features
remain unknown in the days of satelite imaging, there are still many vast
areas which have never been explored on foot. Two afternoon's exploration
at Karkur Talh in March 2001 resulted in the discovery of several new rock
art sites, and any number may remain to be discovered. Also the area around
Wadi Sora warrants a serious survey. On our previous trips we tried to visit as many sites as possible during the two weeks spent in the desert, which of course limited the time available at each. On this forthcoming trip, the focus will be on exploring fewer areas much more intensely. |
We
shall stay 3/4 days at Karkur Talh, and another 3/4 days at another location,
enough for a detailed exploration of the surroundings, and possibly discovering
new rock art sites.
The trip will cover substantially shorter distance than the previous ones, we
will go to Uweinat along the easiest route, and return via the Aqaba pass, rounding
the north-east corner of the Gilf, then proceeding straight east till the tarmac.
This way we'll be able to get by with only two cars, taking 5 - 6 participants
on a two week trip.
Please contact me for more detailed
information on the trip and planned areas to be explored.
