We ventured out again in October 1998, this time successfully! The 15 day trip went as follows:

Day 1. - Cairo - Kharga
Day 2. - (Fuelling, filling supplies, etc.) Kharga - Abu Moharig dunes by Darb el Arbain 50 km S. of last village
Day 3. - Darb el Arbain - Bir Terfawi - camp by Abu Hussein dunes at N 22°50' E 28°25'
Day 4. - Abu Hussein dunes - accross Selima Sand Sheet - Gebel Kamil - camp at N. corner of dune belt at E 26°20'.
Day 5. - Drive till Gebel Uweinat, camp at hills opposite mouth of Karkur Talh
Day 6. - Karkur Talh rock art sites - on foot, mouth of wadi closed for vehicles by minefield
Day 7. - Uweinat - Gebel Peter & Paul - camp at Clayton's Craters
Day 8. - Craters - Prince Kemal el Din monument (erected by Almasy in 1933) - Wadi Sora in north western Gilf Kebir
Day 9. - Wadi Sora, visit to site of "Chianti Camp" of the 1932 Almásy/Clayton expedition. Discovered a shattered LRDG Rum Jar.
Day 10. - Wadi Sora - ascending el 'Aqaba pass - camp in the middle of the rift of the Gilf.
Day 11. - Attempt to reach Wadi Hamra - turned back as dunes were very difficult to cross, and one of our vehicles was leaking transmission fluid (it barely reached Dakhla, 800 kms away)
Day 12. - Proceeded north along cliffs, camped at N.E. corner of Gilf Kebir
Day 13. - Gilf - Abu Ballas
Day 14. - Abu Ballas - Dakhla
Day 15. - Dakhla - Cairo
